Board of Trustees

Wingra School is a nonprofit organization governed by a Board of Trustees composed of parents, staff members, and community volunteers. The board provides support for all aspects of the school through fundraising, policy development, maintenance of the organizational structure, and participation in financial and long-range planning.

The board is self-perpetuating; new members are chosen by current board members to bring in needed strengths and talents. Staff members are nominated by the staff. It is important that potential board members are committed to Wingra’s mission and ownership and are able to “think big” in terms of systems, not details. Interested parties can find the self-nomination form here.

A Note from the President of the Board of Trustees

Greetings Wingra Community Past, Present and Future!

It is my honor and privilege to serve Wingra School as the President of the Board of Trustees. As an educator, I have always looked to spaces that allow learners to have a voice and participate in cultivating their experience within the classroom and beyond. Wingra does that. As a parent, I approached finding a school for my child where the curriculum allowed learners to grapple with big problems in age-appropriate, inter-disciplinary ways. Wingra does that. And as a community member of the greater Madison area, I am always fascinated by the ways that community organizations are able to fill niches and create support systems others may not have known were necessary. (Say it with me now…) Wingra does that.

The Board of Trustees serves as a form of scaffolding to support the broader vision and mission of the organization. We share the responsibility of sustaining the progress towards long-term goals and growth with an eye on fiscal responsibility and responsive innovation. Our efforts are directed by the collective momentum of a community who sees the benefit of and advocates for a Wingra education.

I am excited for our community as we embark on a new strategic planning process and set the stage for continued development and collective growth in alignment with Wingra’s mission. I am grateful for the number of volunteers who come together to participate in this process; it speaks volumes of the impact Wingra has had on folks that so many choose to contribute back to the Wingra community. We are all the things Wingra inspires in learners on a daily basis.

As a Board, we welcome folks to join us in our efforts. I would be happy to match folks who share an interest in contributing to the sustainability of Wingra’s success with an initiative, committee or other opportunity that strikes a match between the two.
