Madison, WI (April 14, 2010) – Wingra School students will present Weaving Our Voices, an art exhibit at the Playhouse Gallery in the Overture Center for the Arts. The exhibit, exploring questions of identity and community, will run from May 6 – 13 with an opening reception on May 6 from 6 - 7 p.m.

"The images we create in visual art are influenced by many things," says Wingra School art teacher, Barbara Westfall, "including other forms of art such as music, dance, movement, literature and technology." According to Westfall, "Weaving Our Voices reflects some of the commonalities that exist between the arts and the identity of the student that created each piece.”

The artwork, representing personal interests, identities and perspectives of students ages 11-14, utilizes a variety of media. It includes weaving, which students created on looms they built themselves, designs on functioning skateboards, and print-making.
“It was cool to be able to use different materials and mediums for our weaving pieces,” says artist, Katelyn, age 14, "The pieces are original and true to themselves.”

For more information about the Weaving Our Voices art exhibit, contact Barbara Westfall by email or call 608.238.2525.
