Spanish

Linnette De La Texera, Wingra's Spanish teacher, was born in Puerto Rico and has lived in Mexico. She has traveled throughout Spain and Central and South America, greatly enriching her understanding of Spanish language and culture.

Wingra School recognizes the importance of learning foreign languages at the earliest age possible. People who learn more than one language utilize more brain capacity than those who do not, rendering language learning an important part of a person's development. Our Spanish class is conducted in Spanish as much as possible as we move toward the goal of total Spanish immersion. The curriculum covers customs and belief systems, through film, music, dance, food, literature, research and hands on projects.

Students at Wingra meet with Linnette two or three times per week. The goal of the Spanish program in the earlier years is, first and foremost, to develop an appreciation for learning another language and culture, and perhaps the motivation to continue study later in life. The older students turn toward more structured study of grammar, increasing fluency and vocabulary. They also have opportunities to develop significant insight into the culture, geography, and history of the Spanish-speaking world.
