Job Posting: Music Teacher
Wingra School is looking for a 3/4 time Music Teacher for children ages 5-14, who brings out the best in students through engaging, interactive curriculum based on a deep understanding of child development and a passion for the learning process. Work with multi-age groups of primary students (ages 5-7), intermediate students (ages 7-9 and 9-11) and adolescent students (ages 11-14). Must be an excellent teacher who is resourceful, enthusiastic, organized and able to navigate the educational terrain with flexibility and grace. This is a one-year position while our current teacher is on sabbatical.
The Music Program at Wingra:
Wingra School’s music program is a key component of the school, strengthening our community and increasing cultural awareness and understanding. Through specific music exploration and theory activities, children learn musical terminology, basic chords, notes, harmonization, and to follow simple to intermediate melodies with voice and other instruments.
We believe that theory and technique are only a portion of what is taught in a music classroom. The music methods and activities which we use also help children to explore their own creativity, expression and talents. We believe that involvement with music helps the whole child academically, physically and emotionally, expanding language, social and cognitive skills.
At Wingra, students experience music through a variety of activities including singing, moving, chanting, listening, performing, reading, writing, and creating music. These activities facilitate a developmental progression in the understanding of basic musical concepts including rhythm, melody, harmony, and composition while learning music theory, music history, and performance techniques. The curriculum is also guided by and directly connected with the themes and units in each classroom.
